This past weekend, the GRACE Transitional Housing ladies embarked on the De-Clutter challenge! Led by organizer coach Tammy O’Neil, each family was tasked with spending 15 minutes a day gathering all of the items in their homes they no longer needed. These items were then packed up and donated straight to GRACE resale stores!
But why clutter? And why start spring cleaning so early? As Tammy O’Neil explains on her website, the impacts a cluttered home can have on a person are vast. In her August newsletter (listed here) “The Impact of Clutter on Your Mental Health,” Tammy explains that clutter can increase feelings of stress and anxiety in individuals- and even impact personal relationships.
The benefits of decluttering one’s home are vast! For one, going through what you already have brings it to the forefront of your mind, allowing you to utilize what you already have instead of seeking out more things (no more accidentally buying doubles!). Decluttering can be an easy and accessible way to tackle anxiety and stress while improving focus and organization.
With the holidays just around the corner, the last thing anyone needs is more stress and anxiety. As Martisha Smith, GRACE’s Transitional Housing Manager explained, participating in this challenge and decluttering their homes filled the volunteers with joy- “They were all so happy to give to others in the spirit that they receive!”
So, GRACE encourages you to take on the challenge and de-clutter your home! Work to mitigate your own stress and give to a good cause. Everyone deserves to live in a stress-free, clutter-free home. This holiday season, treat yourself to a decluttered home and give back to your community!
When you’re ready, you can drop off your donations at our Donation Station, located at 1060 Texan Trail, Grapevine, TX 76051. We are open and ready for you in our circle drive from Tuesday – Saturday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
We are so proud of our Transitional Housing families who took on the challenge and made an impact in our community!
