Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop in Colleyville, owned by two GRACE supporters, Jason and Sheila Ridley, chose GRACE as the benefactor for July’s ‘Pie It Forward’ initiative. A portion of the proceeds from each peach pie sold in July (9-inch and 4-inch) went to support GRACE Back to School, which took place the first weekend of August. When asked, Sheila said “We consider it an honor to help GRACE in any way possible. The ‘Pie It Forward’ program is a small way that we can connect our community with GRACE. It’s time to “Shine Bright, Do Good” by shopping with Kendra Scott during an upcoming Kendra Gives Back event! On Wednesday, August 16th, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, shoppers at the Kendra Scott Southlake store will be able to support the Tom and Susan Durant Foundation with their purchases!  The Tom and Susan Durant Foundation, founded by the owners of Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, is a non-profit that seeks to build up the surrounding community by supporting other local non-profits. As we continue through the summer months and edge closer to fall, we are getting excited for the 12th Annual Classic Chevrolet Charity Golf Tournament! Through this tournament, set to take place on Thursday, October 5th, Classic Chevrolet will be supporting a number of local organizations – including GRACE!  For several years now, the employees of Classic Chevrolet have been involved with the community on multiple levels and have always been encouraged by owner Tom Durant to expand on that involvement. Tom and his wife Susan put out the challenge for the employees to “raise as much as they could” for the community, and they would personally match it dollar for dollar. In 2012, a committee was formed by the employees of Classic Chevrolet to take fundraising efforts to the next level, and thus began the annual golf tournament. GRACE would like to introduce its new Donation Station & Internet Sales Manager, Brian Matthews! Brian was born in Bryan, Texas, and was raised in Junction City, Kansas. Growing up he loved kayaking, camping, fishing, and playing disc golf with his family; most of the things he continues to do with his children. Before joining GRACE, Brian worked as an Online Sales Manager for Goodwill in Fort Worth, leading the charge in setting short-term and long-term goals, coordinating sales activities, and managing the company’s sales website. Brian came to GRACE in May and has already begun to use his creative experiences to help with GRACE’s online shopping platform GRACEful-E. As the summer season edges closer to autumn and the start of the school year looms, GRACE still had one very important graduation to celebrate. Last night, we celebrated eight incredible women that recently graduated from the Transitional Housing program with food, moving speeches, photos, and lots of happy tears!  The beautiful landscape of Paradise Cove served as the perfect backdrop for the evening ceremony. Local caterer, Bolles Appetit, provided a delicious array of foods including fresh fruit, fiery jalapeño poppers, and juicy pulled pork sliders. Selph Marketing graciously donated a fun selfie station for graduates and guests alike to commemorate the event.  Throughout the night, story after story was shared from staff and graduates on just how incredible the Transitional Housing program is – especially the clients! – and what a difference it has made in the lives of each person involved. The final days of summer are dwindling, and so are the days remaining to meet our supply goal for the 2023 Back to School Fair! We need your help this week more than ever to collect enough supplies before August 5th. Each year, GRACE partners with GCISD at the annual Back to School Fair. All of the participating families qualify for free and reduced lunch, which is the criteria to receive most services at the fair. For the families who also qualify for free and reduced lunch but did not register in time, GRACE steps in and fills in the gaps. Last year, GRACE was able to give filled backpacks to 300 children unable to sign up for the GCISD Fair in time. Who doesn’t love a birthday party? We sure do! That’s why we recently celebrated our Transitional Housing clients who had a birthday between the months of January and June this year! That adds up to 12 clients, including children – that’s a lot to celebrate!  Last year, Cynthia Day of Trusted Results Realty wanted to give back to the Transitional Housing program in a special way, and the first collective birthday party was a hit! This year’s party followed suit, complete with pizza, wings, cake, and of course – lots of dancing!   Martisha Smith, Transitional Housing Manager, created an awesome playlist of songs that were released the year the honored clients were born, and turned it into a fun guessing game! GRACE’s new clinic class, “Healthy Body, Healthy Life,” is off to a great start with more and more clients coming in every week as they continue their journey toward self-sufficiency. However, with school starting soon, GRACE is in need of another coach in order to continue this exciting class. Led by Kansas State student, Reagan Hukill, “Healthy Body, Healthy Life” is an interactive class that focuses on the importance of exercising. This class is action-packed, with workout routines including cardio, lifting, and stretching. Reagan makes it a goal to meet each client where they’re at and to help them become more confident during their workouts. Reagan is currently a senior at Kansas State University, on a full-ride scholarship for pole-vaulting. Just when you think our Community Clinic couldn’t get any better, a local organization partners with GRACE to present a Free Health Fair for the community! The Northeast Chapter of the Texas Indo-American Physicians Society (TIPS NEC) is a non-profit organization committed to the service of humanity. In partnership with more than 600 physicians from the DFW area, TIPS NEC lives through its mission of service, education, and networking throughout the region. Various health fairs and clinics are offered to patients, most of whom are uninsured. After learning more about GRACE, TIPS NEC partnered with the Community Clinic to present a Free Health Fair to GRACE clients this past Saturday. This health fair was attended by many GRACE clients, who were eager to receive free consultations with physicians from all across the metroplex.
