The grace that rests on GRACE is our ability to demonstrate compassion, provide relief, and tailor care plans unique to every household that ensures both stability and a path to self-sufficiency.
That personal touch can be trying at times especially for our care managers who hear the most heartbreaking of cases all day long. Our care managers are the hands of GRACE to each individual and family and they show an extraordinary amount of care to each one.
In the last month, GRACE received a referral from one of our church partners about a client who was in dire need of our assistance.
This single mother had been recently diagnosed with both breast and hip cancer and was in chronic pain due to her condition. She had been under immense stress, and the toll that the diagnosis took to her mental, physical, and financial well-being was significant. She provided her care manager with clinical paperwork showing the number of doctor visits she’d been to and shared that since she was now undergoing chemotherapy, she wasn’t feeling like herself. In addition to the pain, she constantly felt fatigued.
She had been receiving short term disability, but notified GRACE that this past month it was decreased by 40% which, of course, dramatically affected her income. Due to this unexpected change, she came to GRACE seeking rental assistance while she works on regaining her strength so she can return to work.
Because of our church partner who referred her and a generous community, GRACE was able to provide this suffering single mother with her full month’s rent. A GRACE care manager was even able to hand deliver the payment directly to the landlord to prevent any late fees and to not put further strain on the physical state of the client.
Through tears she expressed her gratefulness and this November, she has much to be thankful for, including finding GRACE.
