The month of May was a very busy and exciting month for the GRACE Clients at Transitional Housing. Early in the month, they were greeted by a surprise, but very familiar guest in the Community. The Grapevine Fire Department arrived at the scene, not for an emergency, but to talk about fire safety.

GRACE Clients learned about new ways to keep their homes safe and how to prevent kitchen fires. They also received great information on what to do in case of a tornado and other types of inclement weather.

Everyone had a chance to see the hard work and dedication that the Grapevine Fire Department gives to the community and how they are just as nice they are on and off the job. If you ask the children of our clients, they would tell you that the best part for them was “climbing and playing in the big fire truck” even had a chance to climb inside the fire truck and play around.

Just recently over a weekend, another incredible opportunity played out at GRACE Transitional Housing – with all the thanks going to Colleyville Heritage High School Senior, Grace Mabery!

Grace is a Member of the National Charity League, Colleyville Area Chapter, where she participated in the NCL TAG (Tiktoker Action Grants.) This particular Grant helps to identify a need in the community, experience a real-life grant application, receive $500 to fund their idea, and improve the lives of community members!

After learning about this fabulous way of serving her community, Grace immediately thought of GRACE and reached out to Volunteer Manager, Ryan Jackson. Grace decided to focus on Transitional Housing, and replaced old furniture on the patio. This provided a new, safe, and welcoming place for our clients to host bible studies, birthday celebrations, evening chats, and much more.

While setting up the area, Grace was greeted by some of our clients who thanked her and talked to her about all of the great things they would be able to do, all of which made Grace’s mother, Heather Hedges, proud of her daughter.

“We are so proud of Grace’s dedication to always wanting to serve the community,” said Heather. “As a child, she always talked about the many needs in the world and we are so glad that she is tackling those needs, one step at a time!”

On behalf of GRACE, we want to send a shoutout and thank you to the Grapevine Fire Department and Grace Mabery. Thank you for always thinking of the different ways you can serve your community, and thank you for thinking about the GRACE Transitional Housing Program.
