Last Saturday, on August 5th, GRACE participated in the annual Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Back to School Fair at 121 Community Church! Over the last couple of months, we have been collecting backpacks full of school supplies for this fair, and as a result were able to distribute 24 backpacks to students in need! Hundreds more will continue to be given to families that visit GRACE Client Services.
Each year, this event is planned for school-aged children whose families are experiencing financial hardship and/or qualify for free or reduced lunch. Pre-registered families were able to receive a number of valuable resources before their children return to school later this month. Along with the backpacks and school supplies, GRACE was also able to distribute clothing items such as socks and underwear to hundreds of students for the new school year!
We couldn’t do it alone! We had a lot of volunteers who stepped up to help with everything from loading and unloading the truck with items, setting up the space, and, of course, handing out the items themselves. As always, GRACE is so thankful to everyone who jumps in to serve this community.
Interim Director of Programs, Jamé Scott, shared, “Year after year we have seen an increase in the needs for the families we get to serve in our community. We are so blessed to have been supplied with the means to distribute clothing, underwear and shoes for more than 725 students. My favorite part of the morning is being able to engage with the children and families and talk about their favorite subjects and what they’re looking forward to most, about going back to school. Many of the children are looking forward to seeing their friends and favorite teachers. You could see the joy and excitement on some of their faces when they got their new shoes.”
What a wonderful day it was! Now, so many more students are prepped and ready for another successful school year. For more volunteer opportunities, reach out to volunteer@gracegrapevine.org or check out the “Get Involved” tab on our website!
